# OPCW-UN investigators attribute the Khan Shaykhun sarin attack to the Syrian government

The April 2017 chemical attack on Khan Shaykhun exposed civilians to sarin. The OPCW confirmed the use of sarin, and the OPCW-UN Joint Investigative Mechanism later attributed responsibility for the release to the Syrian government. That preserves both the seriousness of the investigative conclusion and the distinction between responsibility of a state apparatus and proof about the precise individual command chain for the attack.
