## The fact

On 30 July 2025 the United States and South Korea announced a strategic trade-and-investment understanding: reciprocal tariffs on originating Korean goods at 15 percent rather than the threatened 25, against a Korean commitment on the order of $350 billion in US investment plus large US energy purchases.
