# Kurz sworn in as chancellor at head of ÖVP–FPÖ coalition

On 18 December 2017 [Sebastian Kurz](/people/sebastian-kurz) was sworn in as Austrian chancellor, leading a coalition of his People's Party with the far-right Freedom Party. The coalition collapsed in May 2019 after the Ibiza video scandal involving FPÖ leader [Heinz-Christian Strache](/people/heinz-christian-strache).
