By 2006 Donald Sturgeon’s Chinese Text Project was publishing a freely readable Dao De Jing with Chinese text and aligned translations. It is not an excavated slip.

## Context

Digital alignment lets readers see chapter variants without a research library. It can also freeze one punctuation.

[Laozi](/people/laozi) is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.
