In 1957 the Chinese Daoist Association was established as the patriotic united-front body through which temples, clergy, and liturgies of the [Laozi](/people/laozi)-named religion would be registered and supervised. Later Cultural Revolution closure is a separate row.

## Context

Registration can protect a legal church. It also creates a file of clergy and sites. The worsening path stored here is supervised identity of a religious minority, not a GDPR series.

Laozi is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.
