## The fact

From 2014 official PRC speeches and documents on excellent traditional Chinese culture have repeatedly named pre-Qin masters, including [Laozi](/people/laozi), as a present political resource. The traditional author is the cited ancestor, not the speechwriter.

## Context

A composite ancient book is not a 2014 communiqué. Citing it as national essence polarises domestic religion-and-party space and export soft power. It does not excavate a new slip.

Laozi is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.
