# Martinez calls for mass strike against Macron's pension reform

Ahead of the first united union day of action on 19 January 2023, CGT leader [Philippe Martinez](/people/philippe-martinez) called for millions of people to strike and march against the government's pension reform. After the protests he put turnout at more than two million nationwide, while the police estimate was about 1.1 million.
