# Maryam Nawaz acquitted in Avenfield case

On 29 September 2022 the Islamabad High Court acquitted [Maryam Nawaz](/people/maryam-nawaz), daughter of three-time prime minister [Nawaz Sharif](/people/nawaz-sharif), in the Avenfield properties reference. The ruling overturned her 2018 conviction and made her eligible again to stand in elections in Pakistan, about four years after an accountability court had sentenced her in the same case in July 2018.
