# Maryam Nawaz convicted in Avenfield case

On 6 July 2018 a Pakistani accountability court sentenced [Maryam Nawaz](/people/maryam-nawaz) to seven years for abetment in the Avenfield reference over her family's London flats, with a concurrent one-year term for non-cooperation; her father [Nawaz Sharif](/people/nawaz-sharif) received ten years. The case grew out of the 2016 Panama Papers. She was acquitted on appeal in 2022.
