# Mazón government criticised over late Valencia flood alert

On 29 October 2024 catastrophic DANA floods killed more than 220 people in Valencia province; [Carlos Mazón](/people/carlos-mazon)'s regional government sent the mobile emergency alert only at 20:11, hours after flooding began, drawing heavy criticism. His government later told the investigating judge that Mazón had not yet reached the emergency coordination centre when the alert went out.
