Postwar editions of Gramsci’s Quaderni treat [Machiavelli](/people/niccolo-machiavelli)’s new prince as a model for a modern party. Gramsci wrote in prison; publishers issued the notes later. Machiavelli did not found the PCI.

## Context

A Marxist-party reading can be analytically serious and still a polarising twentieth-century use. Store the publication, not a 1513 soviet.

Niccolò Machiavelli is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name.
