# EU adopts the New Pact on Migration and Asylum (2024)

The European Parliament approved (10 April 2024) and the Council of the EU adopted (14 May 2024) the New Pact on Migration and Asylum, a package of around ten legislative instruments overhauling EU asylum procedures, border screening, the Eurodac database and a 'mandatory solidarity' mechanism. Most provisions apply from mid-2026.
