# Germany's Opportunity Card enters into force under the reformed Skilled Immigration Act (2024)

On 1 June 2024 the final stage of Germany's reformed Skilled Immigration Act entered into force, including the points-based Opportunity Card for eligible third-country jobseekers. The card allows a time-limited job search in Germany and limited employment while searching. OECD analysis treats reduced barriers to skilled migration as one measure for mitigating labour shortages intensified by [population ageing](/drivers/mig-demographic-ageing); this record does not claim that the reform alone reverses ageing.
