## The fact

On 31 August 2016 [Aung San Suu Kyi](/people/aung-san-suu-kyi) opened the Union Peace Conference — 21st Century Panglong.

## Context

Some EAOs sat; others did not. The Tatmadaw sat with veto power. A conference is still a dated peace-process instrument with later stall.
