## The fact

On 13 November 2010 [Aung San Suu Kyi](/people/aung-san-suu-kyi) was released from house arrest after the junta’s 2010 election.

## Context

[Thein Sein](/people/thein-sein)’s transition had begun. She did not write the 2008 Constitution. A release is still a dated [civic-space](/drivers/civic-space) gain.
