# The 6 April 1924 election is held under squadrist intimidation after Acerbo arithmetic

Date: 1924

## The fact

On 6 April 1924 Italy voted under the Acerbo Law amid beatings, ballot theft, and murder of opponents. The fascist list took the prize majority. [Mussolini](/people/benito-mussolini) headed the government that ran the poll.

It is one event.

## Context

Not every ballot was a fiction. Enough violence and legal prize-seats made the Chamber a captured body. Matteotti’s June speech named the fraud; that speech is the next instrument.

Benito Mussolini’s documented role is bounded by other offices and collaborators named in the sources below. Sharing a field with them is not a reason to drop a documented act, and it is not a reason to assign later consequences done in the name after death.

Named person as heading of the dated public instrument. Later editors, museums, printers, or offices share publication. Complex where later carriers date the row.

## Evidence and sources

Camera electoral history and Britannica independently record 1924 as an intimidated prize-majority election.

Official or archival record: Camera dei Deputati — historical portal (https://storia.camera.it/; Camera dei Deputati).

## Significance

An election run with militia intimidation is a [democratic-resilience](/drivers/democratic-resilience) harm, not a mandate.

Do not call 1924 a free election with ‘some irregularities’.

An election run with militia intimidation is a democratic-resilience harm, not a mandate.

## What is established and what is not

Established: 6 April 1924 returned a fascist prize majority amid documented violence. Not established: a unique national fraud percentage as this catalog’s census.

What would change the picture: a contradictory original with a different date or name, or a measured series that can be argued, with lag and alternatives, as a consequence of this instrument rather than of later institutions.

The date is the date of this instrument, not a licence to back-date every later harm or benefit.

Established here: a sourced, dated public instrument with a named contribution by Benito Mussolini.

What would change the picture: a contradictory original with a different date, signatory, or non-occurrence; a demonstrated forgery; or a measured series that can be argued, with lag and alternatives, as a consequence of this instrument rather than of other causes.

Contribution type is direct. They are not a public rating.
