From 1926–27 the regime built a secret political police later known as OVRA, with files, informants, confino, and mail/press censorship. [Mussolini](/people/benito-mussolini)’s Interior and then specialized offices ran the machine.

Confino to the islands is extra-judicial punishment. Files on opponents are a personal-data-and-police path. Analogical: a name-file harm with real exile attached.
