From September 1943 German forces and RSI police deported Jews from Italy and Italian-occupied zones to killing centres. The 16 October 1943 Rome ghetto roundup is the public date-heading. [Mussolini](/people/benito-mussolini)’s rump collaborated; it did not hide the trains.

German SS ran Auschwitz as destination. RSI militia and police supplied lists and manpower. Sharing with Germany is the record, not a reason to drop the Italian heading. USHMM is the independent museum file.
