# Muscat charged over hospitals privatisation deal

In May 2024 prosecutors in Malta charged former Prime Minister [Joseph Muscat](/people/joseph-muscat) with corruption-related offences including bribery and money laundering, following a magisterial inquiry. The case concerns the privatisation of three state hospitals to Vitals Global Healthcare, a deal negotiated and managed by his government. Muscat denies wrongdoing.
