# OAS calls for new vote after Hernández's disputed re-election

On 17 December 2017 the Organization of American States said irregularities in Honduras's November 2017 presidential election prevented certainty about the result and called for a new election, after authorities declared incumbent [Juan Orlando Hernández](/people/juan-orlando-hernandez) the winner of a re-election once barred by the constitution.
