# Ocasio-Cortez and Markey introduce Green New Deal resolution

On 7 February 2019 Representative [Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez](/people/alexandria-ocasio-cortez) and Senator Ed Markey introduced a non-binding Green New Deal resolution calling for a ten-year national mobilisation to cut greenhouse-gas emissions. Several leading Democratic presidential candidates endorsed it. The Senate version was defeated on a procedural vote in March 2019.
