# Rerum vulgarium fragmenta (Canzoniere) left as a worked vernacular songbook

Date: 1374

## The fact

Across decades [Petrarch](/people/petrarch) assembled, ordered, and revised the Italian poems later called the Canzoniere or Rerum vulgarium fragmenta, a sequence of sonnets and canzoni largely but not only about Laura. The dated public instrument stored here is the late lifetime form of that book, year-level at the end of his working life (he died 18/19 July 1374). It is not a UNESCO listing and not a later nationalist anthology. Laura as a biographical person is not, by herself, a welfare Fact.

## Context

Vernacular lyric already existed; this book made a portable, copyable, obsessively ordered vernacular monument. Shared with scribes of the late codices. Petrarchive edits the visual poetics of the songbook. Day of a first ‘publication’ is not invented; the work is a lifetime instrument closed by death.

Shared responsibility is part of Rerum vulgarium fragmenta (Canzoniere) left as a worked vernacular songbook. Naming Petrarch does not delete co-authors, institutions, or later transmitters. The lag from 1374-01-01 to any measured indicator is not treated as zero. Alternative explanations — weather, other armies, later statutes, or independent cultural change — remain live where the sources do not close them.

## Evidence and sources

Petrarchive at https://dcl.luddy.indiana.edu/petrarchive/ is a scholarly public edition of RVF. Poetry in Translation at https://www.poetryintranslation.com/PITBR/Italian/Petrarchhome.php independently presents a complete English Canzoniere. Poetry Foundation at https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poets/petrarch/ is a third public page.

Official or archival record: Petrarchive — Rerum vulgarium fragmenta edition (https://dcl.luddy.indiana.edu/petrarchive/; Indiana University Petrarchive).

## Significance

A stable vernacular book is an education-access path of high confidence and the heaviest cultural weight on this page, still not a literacy time-series.

## What is established and what is not

Established: a lifetime Italian songbook brought to a late form by 1374. Not established: that every lyric is reportage of Laura de Noves, or a unique school-enrolment effect. Later petrarchism is reception. RVF as ordered vernacular book, late lifetime form, Petrarchive as official edition page, not a Laura welfare claim and not UNESCO. Official locator https://dcl.luddy.indiana.edu/petrarchive/ is not independent locator https://www.poetryintranslation.com/PITBR/Italian/Petrarchhome.php. Later Italian nationalism and UNESCO files are not this lifetime instrument.

Later competitions, monuments, translations, UNESCO listings, museums, and adaptations are not converted into extra lifetime acts.

If a number is not in the two records named above, it is not supplied here.

Confidence is stated on the impact path, not hidden in adjectives. Canzoniere is not the Latin Africa and not the 1341 crown. Mixed effects of Rerum vulgarium fragmenta (Canzoniere) left as a worked vernacular songbook are separate paths.

The contribution type is direct. The attached driver is edu-[digital-learning-access](/drivers/edu-digital-learning-access). The welfare reading used in this dossier is improving. That reading is an impact-path choice, not a property stored on the Fact itself.
