## The fact

[Petrarch](/people/petrarch) selected, revised, and arranged letters to living friends as Rerum familiarium libri, a designed book rather than a raw inbox, circulating in his later decades (a conventional closing neighbourhood in the 1360s). Ventoux is one letter inside it, already stored separately.

## Context

Humanist friendship is a network technology. Shared with Boccaccio, with Dionigi, with Nelli, with unnamed scribes. Cohesion here is learned Latin friendship, not a village. Some letters were rewritten for the book; that is why this is an edition-act, not a secret diary.
