# California enacts SB 276, tightening medical exemptions to school vaccination requirements

On 9 September 2019 California Governor [Gavin Newsom](/people/edu-gavin-newsom) signed SB 276, authored by State Senator Richard Pan. The law created a standard statewide medical-exemption form transmitted through the California Immunization Registry and a state review process for exemptions that do not meet applicable clinical criteria, strengthening administration of school-entry vaccination requirements.
