# Studio and pottery assistants execute editions and large works under the Picasso brand Date: 1948 ## The fact From 1948 the Vallauris ceramic workshop and related print shops produced [Picasso](/people/pablo-picasso)-branded editions executed by skilled assistants. This Fact stores that labour form, not a claim that assistants secretly painted Guernica. ## Context Cubism already had shared labour with Braque. Late editions are a different factory. Split 1912 invention from 1948 payroll. Pablo Picasso is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute. ## Evidence and sources Musée Picasso Paris and Tate edition records independently describe workshop ceramics and prints. Official or archival record: Musée Picasso Paris (https://www.museepicassoparis.fr/en; Musée national Picasso-Paris). ## Significance Workshop-labour path. High confidence that assistants executed editions. A thrower is not a footnote. He is the mechanism of a plate. ## What is established and what is not Established: 1948– edition labour under the Picasso brand. Not established: a wage series, or that 1937 Guernica was a pottery. What would change the picture: a contradictory original with a different date or name, or a measured series that can be argued, with lag and alternatives, as a consequence of this instrument rather than of later institutions. The date is the date of this instrument, not a licence to back-date every later harm or benefit. ## People - Pablo Picasso: https://factrail.ai/people/pablo-picasso ## Drivers - Labour-Market Tightness: https://factrail.ai/drivers/labour-market-tightness ## Sources - https://www.tate.org.uk/art/artists/pablo-picasso-1767 - https://www.museepicassoparis.fr/en ## Methodology https://factrail.ai/methodology Canonical: https://factrail.ai/facts/pic-studio-assistants
