# Authorities formalized confiscation of property belonging to expelled critics

Date: 2023

The IACHR reported that a Managua appeals court instructed the Public Prosecutor's Office to formalize confiscation of real estate, equity and companies belonging to the 222 people expelled in February. The Commission warned that the measures also affected relatives and third parties and described confiscation as an arbitrary and disproportionate punishment. Earlier IACHR reporting had already documented bank-account closures, raids and removal of property records affecting people deprived of nationality.
