## The fact

On 11 June 1921 Tukhachevsky issued Order No. 0116 in the Tambov campaign against Antonov’s peasant revolt, providing for poison gas against rebels in the forests and for hostage measures already used in the region. The campaign was a Sovnarkom-authorized pacification under [Lenin](/people/vladimir-lenin)’s government.

Later speeches, cult, and measured outcomes are not mixed into this Fact.

Prodrazvyorstka caused the revolt. NEP was being announced; suppression still used terror. Chemical-use evidence is documentary; scale of actual gas employment is debated.
