# Egyptian antiquities administration presents the Citadel as a public museum-fortress

## The fact

In the 1980s the Egyptian antiquities service consolidated the Citadel of [Saladin](/people/saladin) as a ticketed public historic site with mosques, terraces, and museums. He did not run a ticket office.

## Context

Public access to a fortress can be cohesion and a tourist script. Labour of 1176 is not rebated.

Saladin is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.
