## The fact

Nineteenth-century recueil editing and later studies put Imad al-Din, Saladin’s secretary, into the public source list beside Ibn Shaddad. Panegyric rhymed prose remains panegyric.

## Context

A secretary’s art is evidence of court self-presentation, not of a welfare yearbook. Access to that voice is the improving path.

[Saladin](/people/saladin) is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name.
