## The fact

On 2 October 2018 Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. Saudi Arabia first denied, then acknowledged a killing. In 2021 the US ODNI assessed that [Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman](/people/mohammed-bin-salman) approved an operation to capture or kill him. He denies involvement. It is not a Riyadh homicide conviction of the crown prince.

## Context
