# Sanders suspends his 2020 presidential campaign

On 8 April 2020 Senator [Bernie Sanders](/people/bernie-sanders) ended his campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination, telling supporters that a path to victory was virtually impossible and citing the coronavirus pandemic. The move left [Joe Biden](/people/env-person-joe-biden) as the presumptive nominee. Sanders said he would stay on the ballot in remaining primaries, and he endorsed Biden on 13 April.
