# Mária Schmidt removed as director of the House of Terror

On 15 September 2026 [Mária Schmidt](/people/maria-schmidt)'s mandate as director-general of the [House of Terror museum](/organizations/house-of-terror-museum), which she had led since it opened in 2002, was terminated. Culture minister Zoltán Tarr announced on Facebook that it was his decision and that the museum would be reviewed; it was temporarily closed while its exhibition and legal matters were examined.
