# Semmelweis University strips Schmitt of doctorate for plagiarism

On 29 March 2012 the senate of Semmelweis University revoked President [Pál Schmitt](/people/pal-schmitt)'s doctorate after a fact-finding committee, set up in January, found his 1992 thesis had been largely copied. The senate acted on a proposal from the university's doctoral council, voting 33 to 4, after the human resources ministry had returned the committee's report without action.
