# RSF captures El Fasher after a siege OHCHR dates from May 2024

Date: 2025

## The fact

On 24–30 October 2025 the Rapid Support Forces launched a final offensive and captured El Fasher, capital of North Darfur, after a siege OHCHR dates from May 2024. The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights documented the offensive. Human Rights Watch interviewed refugees who fled to eastern Chad. IPC later confirmed famine in El Fasher town.

## Context

OHCHR had warned through 2025 of ethnically motivated attacks if RSF took the city. HRW recorded an 18-month siege with a berm cutting aid. This page does not invent a unique integer. [Abdel Fattah al-Burhan](/people/abdel-fattah-al-burhan) commanded the opposing SAF garrison and is live.

May 2024 siege start; 24–30 October 2025 offensive; 3 November 2025 IPC note. Stored as one 26 October 2025 Fact. Keep RSF captures El Fasher after a siege OHCHR dates from May 2024 on 2025-10-26 separate from neighbouring [Hemedti](/people/hemedti) instruments.

The commander of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces can order a sit-in dispersal, move columns into Khartoum, and impose a siege. He does not write Human Rights Watch reports, OHCHR El Fasher notes, or IPC famine classifications.

## Evidence and sources

OHCHR carries the official instrument or communique. Human Rights Watch records the same dated act independently.

## Significance

The path is the owned RSF-war driver: a completed siege-and-capture of a state capital after famine warnings.

## What is established and what is not

Established: RSF captured El Fasher in late October 2025 after a siege OHCHR dates from May 2024. HRW interviewed fleeing civilians. IPC later confirmed famine in the town.

What would change the picture: a contradictory original with a different date or name, a later repeal, a court that vacated the instrument, or a measured series that can be argued, with lag and alternatives, as a consequence of this instrument rather than of later institutions.

The date is the date of this instrument, not a licence to back-date every later harm or benefit.

Sharing the opposing garrison with Burhan is not a reason to drop late October 2025.. A later repeal, court stay, or successor order would be a different Fact with a different date. That pair identifies RSF captures El Fasher after a siege OHCHR dates from May 2024, not a later speech about RSF captures El Fasher after a siege OHCHR dates from May 2024.

Co-authors and later implementers named in Context remain on the file. RSF captures El Fasher after a siege OHCHR dates from May 2024 on 2025-10-26 is not a licence to treat every later OHCHR communique as this same act. If a later repeal, stay, or successor instrument exists, it needs its own date and its own row. This dossier refuses to average RSF captures El Fasher after a siege OHCHR dates from May 2024 into a personality. The contribution described on this Person row is limited to He commanded RSF through the siege and capture. Sharing the opposing garrison with Burhan is not a reason to drop late October 2025. That limit is the alternative to treating office-holding as authorship of every later series.
