# Government of Ethiopia and TPLF sign the AU-brokered Pretoria cessation agreement (2022)

Date: 2022

On 2 November 2022 the Government of Ethiopia and the [Tigray People's Liberation Front](/organizations/tigray-people-s-liberation-front) signed an African Union-brokered agreement for a permanent cessation of hostilities in Pretoria. UN investigators subsequently reported a notable decrease in large-scale violence in Tigray, while also documenting incomplete implementation and continuing human-rights risks. The record therefore describes a large reduction in fighting, not an unqualified end to all violence.
