# Parliament passes simplified naturalisation for ethnic Hungarians

On 26 May 2010 the Hungarian parliament passed a law, championed by [Zsolt Semjén](/people/zsolt-semjen), allowing ethnic Hungarians abroad to obtain citizenship without residence. The bill, tabled by Semjén with Fidesz MPs including [Viktor Orbán](/people/mig-actor-viktor-orban), passed by 344 votes to 3 with 5 abstentions. Slovakia responded by restricting dual citizenship.
