# Sinema votes against changing filibuster to pass voting-rights bill

Date: 2022

On 19 January 2022 Senator [Kyrsten Sinema](/people/kyrsten-sinema) joined Senator [Joe Manchin](/people/econ-joe-manchin) and every Republican in voting down a rules change that would have let Democrats pass voting-rights bills by simple majority. Her vote to keep the filibuster effectively ended the legislation's chances, and she was later censured by Arizona Democrats over it.
