# Parliament amends the penal code and abolishes the special prosecutor’s office

On 8 February 2024 lawmakers in [Fico](/people/robert-fico)’s coalition voted to amend the penal code and eliminate the special prosecutor’s office that handled major crime and corruption. A later Constitutional Court halt of some provisions is neighbouring; the office’s abolition proceeded.
