# Slotkin and Baldwin introduce Protect Our Polls Act

Date: 2026

On 18 June 2026, [Senator Elissa Slotkin](/people/elissa-slotkin) and seven Senate cosponsors, including [Tammy Baldwin](/people/tammy-baldwin), introduced S. 4845, the Protect Our Polls Act. GovInfo says the bill was referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Slotkin's office says it would require explicit congressional approval before troops or armed federal law-enforcement officers could be deployed to election sites under the federal-law exception for repelling armed enemies, and would require the president to provide intelligence, legal justification and evidence that state or local authorities could not manage the threat. The proposal is a legislative response to concern about federal forces at polling places. It does not itself deploy or remove agents and is not evidence that a deployment has occurred.
