# Justice Department releases Jack Smith's report on the election case

On 14 January 2025 the Justice Department released the first volume of Special Counsel [Jack Smith](/people/jack-smith)'s final report, which said the evidence would have been sufficient to obtain and sustain a conviction of [Donald Trump](/people/mig-donald-trump) at trial had he not won the 2024 election.
