# Sonko convicted of 'corrupting youth'

On 1 June 2023 a court in Senegal cleared opposition leader [Ousmane Sonko](/people/ousmane-sonko) of rape but found him guilty of 'corrupting youth', handing him a two-year prison term. The ruling, in a case separate from his other prosecutions, set off deadly unrest across the country.
