# Tukhachevsky and senior commanders are tried and shot Date: 1937 ## The fact On 11 June 1937 a special judicial session sentenced Marshal Mikhail Tukhachevsky and seven other senior commanders; they were shot. The case alleged a military-fascist plot. It opened the wider Red Army purge of 1937–38. Later speeches, the cult, and measured deaths are not mixed into this Fact. ## Context The 1937 February–March plenum had already framed wrecking. German and NKVD forgeries later documented in archives sit in the evidence trail. The 1957 rehabilitation is a later Soviet act, not a 1937 acquittal.
