# FCC Votes to Restore Net Neutrality Under Title II

On 25 April 2024 the US Federal Communications Commission, chaired by [Jessica Rosenworcel](/people/jessica-rosenworcel), voted 3-2 to adopt the 'Safeguarding and Securing the Open Internet' order, reclassifying broadband as a telecommunications service under Title II of the Communications Act and restoring net-neutrality rules that bar blocking, throttling and paid prioritisation. The order largely revived the 2015 Open Internet rules repealed in 2017. It was later challenged in court, and a 2025 appellate ruling held the FCC lacked authority to reinstate the rules, leaving their long-term status unresolved.
