## The fact

Publications of the Karnak Restoration Stela, in twentieth-century epigraphy and encyclopedia narration, print a court text in [Tutankhamun](/people/tutankhamun)’s name restoring Amun and the old temples after Amarna. Religious reversal polarises priesthoods and erases Aten public cult.

## Context

A child king’s cartouche on a restoration programme is complex: Ay and the Amun establishment are usual co-authors in scholarship. Do not treat the stela as a personal essay. Do not deny the cartouche.

Tutankhamun is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.
