# Uribe found guilty of witness tampering

On 28 July 2025 a Bogotá judge found former President [Álvaro Uribe](/people/alvaro-uribe) guilty of witness tampering and procedural fraud, the first criminal conviction of a former Colombian president; he was sentenced to 12 years of house arrest on 1 August. A Bogotá appeals court overturned the conviction on 21 October 2025.
