# Paula Vennells becomes Post Office chief executive

In April 2012 [Paula Vennells](/people/paula-vennells) became chief executive of Post Office Ltd as it separated from Royal Mail and set out to modernise its network of about 11,500 branches. During her tenure the company continued prosecuting sub-postmasters on the basis of data from the Horizon accounting system.
