# Weber reports as a reserve officer to run Heidelberg reserve hospitals

Date: 1914

## The fact

On 2 August 1914 [Max Weber](/people/max-weber), premier-lieutenant of the reserve, reported to the Heidelberg garrison and was assigned to administer reserve military hospitals, a desk-and-discipline job he held into 1915, not a front command. It is health-system work in wartime, modest and shared.

## Context

German professors donned uniforms. Weber wanted the front and got linen and accounts. Wounded men, nurses, and town doctors did the medicine. Sharing is the mechanism. He was promoted captain in January 1915. Do not treat later Red Cross myths as this commission.

## Evidence and sources

MWG I/15 at https://www.mohrsiebeck.com/en/book/zur-politik-im-weltkrieg-9783161447396 officially collects lazarett reports and wartime political writings. Britannica at https://www.britannica.com/biography/Max-Weber-German-sociologist independently notes wartime hospital service in Heidelberg.

## Significance

Health-capacity path, modest weight, medium confidence on any outcome series. High confidence on the 2 August 1914 assignment.

If a number is not in the two records named above, it is not supplied here.

## What is established and what is not

Established: Weber administered Heidelberg reserve hospitals from August 1914. Not established: a unique mortality change in those wards because of his bookkeeping. Contribution is recorded as He served as military member of the Heidelberg Reserve-Lazarettkommission from 2 August 1914. Physicians and nurses treated; he administered. Complex. The impact note is Reserve-hospital administration in 1914–15 is a modest health-capacity path, split from the same month’s war-enthusiasm cost. The dated heading stays Weber reports as a reserve officer to run Heidelberg reserve hospitals on 1914-08-02, not a later statue, UNESCO listing, or school film. Printers, unnamed clerks, and later editors may appear in the same file without becoming this instrument. Later competitions, monuments, and adaptations are refused as extra lifetime acts of this person on this date.

Confidence is stated on the impact path, not hidden in adjectives. Lazarett duty is not the Nürnberg 1916 speech. Mixed effects of Weber reports as a reserve officer to run Heidelberg reserve hospitals are separate paths.

Later competitions, monuments, translations, UNESCO listings, museums, and adaptations are not converted into extra lifetime acts.

The attached driver is health-system-capacity. The welfare reading used in this dossier is improving. That reading is an impact-path choice, not a property stored on the Fact itself.

Shared responsibility is part of Weber reports as a reserve officer to run Heidelberg reserve hospitals. Naming Max Weber does not delete co-authors, institutions, or later transmitters. The lag from 1914-08-02 to any measured indicator is not treated as zero. Alternative explanations — weather, other armies, later statutes, or independent cultural change — remain live where the sources do not close them.
