# Yamandú Orsi ## Identity and office Yamandú Orsi has been president of Uruguay since 1 March 2025. As of September 2026 he remains in office. Carolina Cosse is vice-president and is named as an unresolved person candidate. This run does not mint a page for her. He is not a FA saint. The government lacked a Diputados majority from day one. Interior spent 2025 promising a plan. On 26 March 2026 he presented the Plan Nacional de Seguridad to the Consejo de Ministros ([Presidencia](https://www.gub.uy/presidencia/); [Ámbito](https://www.ambito.com/)). Uruguay's [Presidency](https://www.gub.uy/presidencia/comunicacion/noticias/yamandu-orsi-asume-43-presidente-constitucional-republica-oriental-del) records him as the country's 43rd constitutional president and states that his mandate runs from 2025 to 2030. The official biography also fixes the political path behind that transition: Orsi served as secretary-general of the Canelones government from 2005 to 2015 and as intendente of the department from 2015 to 2024 before his election as president. Orsi described the plan as combining police, infrastructure, social programs and a sustained state presence. Implementation continued during 2026. On 17 June, the [Ministry of Housing reported](https://www.gub.uy/ministerio-vivienda-ordenamiento-territorial/comunicacion/noticias/prersencia-orsi-barrio-inicio-su-intervencion-piedras-alcanzara-4000-personas) that work in Corfrisa, Las Piedras, was intended to reach 4,000 people and included a neighborhood survey to identify housing and family conditions. On 26 June, the [Interior Ministry](https://www.gub.uy/ministerio-interior/comunicacion/noticias/rendicion-cuentas-permitira-incorporar-policias-incrementar-flota-vehicular) said the government's budget-accountability bill would fund additional police personnel, patrol vehicles and technology, while Defense Ministry vehicles would also support targeted patrol and territorial-control operations.
