The UK government's economic and finance ministry, responsible for the Budget.
HM Treasury is the United Kingdom's economic and finance ministry, responsible for developing and implementing the government's public-finance and economic policy. Based in London and headed by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, it is one of the central departments of the UK government. Its functions include managing public spending, setting fiscal policy and taxation strategy, overseeing the government's financial framework, and contributing to financial-services and regulatory policy. The Treasury prepares the Budget and related fiscal events, coordinates with bodies such as the Bank of England and the Office for Budget Responsibility, and oversees a number of agencies and arms-length bodies. Its decisions shape taxation, government borrowing, and the allocation of public resources across the UK.
