U.S. cabinet department overseeing immigration enforcement, including ICE and CBP.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is a cabinet-level department of the United States federal government, established in 2002 to consolidate agencies with responsibilities for domestic security. It is headquartered in Washington, D.C. and led by the Secretary of Homeland Security. DHS comprises component agencies that handle border security, immigration services and enforcement, customs, transportation security, cybersecurity, and disaster response, among others. Its immigration-related components administer lawful immigration benefits, manage ports of entry, and carry out immigration enforcement under federal law. The department's authorities and funding are set by Congress, and many of its actions, particularly in immigration, are subject to review by the courts and to oversight by other federal bodies.
